Set Aright

I wanted to go to a conference. A really big, good conference, seemingly made just for me. My first writing conference since the book was accepted. And I could enter a First Chapter contest with Remnant and Grace and Chocolate. It was going to be so great!
My book being accepted is amazing... a huge thing that happened in a week of huge things.
The same week, my husband was notified that he had been selected as Wyoming State's Assistant Principal of the Year. It was an amazing week for both of us.
Guess which weekend the nation is honoring my husband in Washington DC with the other assistant principals of the year?
The same weekend as the conference I wanted to attend.

As I was bemoaning this fact at writer's club, and that not only would I miss all the great classes and meeting people, but I couldn't enter the contest, and next year I wouldn't qualify because I would have a contract, my wonderful friends nodded and offered sympathy, but their eyes said something else.
"Oh, Krista... it must be so hard to be you."

Gulp.

Somebody take notes for me. I'm going to DC with my Assisitant Principal of the Year and I am going to LOVE it.

Are you referring to the LDS Storymakers conference? I'm wanting to go and check the air fares every day. I'm sorry it's the same weekend!! I live near D.C...

If you've already been offered the contract you couldn't enter the contest anyway. Others have been talking about this already-even though their books won't be out until months after the conference.

Since I've got Remnant I want to see if I can recognize your story for LDSP's contest-best wishes on you and everyone entering-I'm excited for it.

Congratulations to your husband. That's quite an honor.

Thanks, guys. David, I won't have a signed contract until after the conference, so I thought I was still eligible, so I will just listen to you and feel better. Thank you!!!! I was mostly looking forward to meeting some of you! Another time, I guess. maybe I will be inspired in DC... another story perhaps?

Maybe it's just my social anxiety showing but a trip to DC with me and my honey sounds way better than a crowded conference with a lot of people I don't know where I've never been before so don't know what to expect.

My mistake I thought it was signed already-if its not you probably are still eligible and thus back to square one.
